At last the HTC Droid Eris has a 2.0.1 software update by Verizon which includes enhancements and bug fixes.
Verizon is getting an OTA (over the air) update for the Droid Eris and this new firmware update should make the smartphone a little better than it already is, the question we want to ask you is “Will it make a major difference?”
Here is what to expect when you have the Verizon HTC Droid Eris 2.0.1 software update installed: While on a call and the device is in screensaver mode, pressing the End key now takes the device out of screensaver mode, and a second press will end the call, Upgraded functionality after activation eliminates the delay users were experiencing in receiving their first call and On-call mute and speakerphone icon functionality is enhanced.
You will also get: Device no longer requires users to reselect a default email after power-cycling, Device now switches effectively from 1x mode to 3G, Eighty-character MMS/SMS message subject lines are now allowed, Improved picture messaging functionality allows messages from LG phones to be opened and SMS and MMS messaging delivery is improved.

Update: It seems we have made a little mistake, we thought that it was 2.0.1. Apparently this is not the update to either Android 2.0 or 2.1. it is in fact a update for a new boot ROM and radio software and fixes some minor performance issues on the handset.
