New Walmart Family Mobile Launching on 20th Sept

For quite some time Walmart has offered prepaid mobile phone services such as Straight Talk from Verizon and Common Cents from Sprint, however apparently Walmart is adding a new post-paid service to its offerings.

According to an article over on Engadget by Darren Murph, and by way of Ksadd, the VP of merchandising at Walmart US, Greg Hall says there is a “perception among customers that prepaid service doesn’t offer access to the best phones or the best network quality.”

Thus Walmart is introducing Walmart Family Mobile which will apparently offer both prepaid and post-paid options. Apparently users will still pay for their monthly bill and the end of each month but there will be no subsidisation to the handsets.

There seemed to be some confusion over the details but after being contacted by the Walmart PR team to clear things up the plan details are that each line comes with 100MB data (one time) after which there are 3 prepaid ‘Webpak’ choices, 200MB for $10, 500MB for $25 and 1GB for $40 and everything is due to launch as of the 20th of this month with the Motorola Cliq XT at $249.
