iOS 6 now looks to have compatibility testing underway

Regular readers interested in Apple’s iOS may remember that a few days ago we brought you news that the release of the beta version of iOS 6 was imminent. Today we have an update on this as we have learned that iOS 6 compatibility testing is now taking place.

Many are expecting iOS 6 to be revealed at Apple’s WWDC next month and this latest news suggests that this certainly appears more likely. We had already told readers how references to the iOS 6 beta had been discovered in code strings of the iCloud.com beta site and now an app developer has reported spotting users of its app running iOS 6 from analytics software. It seems that iOS 6 users began showing at some point in the last week.

This news was brought to our attention by 9to5Mac who also point out that other developers have also reported users running iOS 6 from late April. This is an indication that Apple is currently underway with compatibility testing of iOS 6 using apps from the App Store. The same compatibility testing also took place last year when the next versions of iOS appeared in developer usage logs so all the signs are promising that iOS 6 is making good progress.

Meanwhile it’s looking less likely than ever that WWDC will feature the iPhone 5 and earlier today we told how as well as a focus of the event being iOS and OS X, it’s now thought that an iCloud revamp will also be unveiled. Other possibilities from WWDC include new MacBook Pros, Apple TV and maybe new iPods as well.

We’ll be bringing readers further news on iOS 6 as we hear it and would be happy to receive your comments about the next major Apple mobile OS update. Are there any changes that you are particularly hoping to see? What would be top of your wish list from iOS 6?
