Expansys now selling Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet

The Apple iPad has long dominated the tablet PC market with a number of rival offerings being released that fell by the wayside, and previously the devices closet competitor was the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that is now being sold at a discount by Expansys.

The device has been the centre of the ongoing legal battle between Apple and Samsung and some patent infringements that Samsung are accused of, but today according to ITProPortal online retailer Expansys are offering customers the original Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for only £260, which is a discount of around £130. The device was priced at almost £400 just a few months ago.

For your money you get a tablet PC that is powered by a 1GHz dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor with 1GB of RAM. The 10.1-inch LCD screen has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and there is also 16GB of in built storage. You are also provided with a three megapixel camera with LED flash and HD video capture on the back, while round the front there is a two megapixel unit.

Other features include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and it comes running the Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system, which will be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich at some point. The device is also light at under 600g and measures less than 9mm in thickness. It is soon to be replaced by the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 so the company will be looking to shift stocks of the old model, but the new version only has the inclusion of a microSD card slot and the repositioning of the speakers compared to the original device.

After Apple slashed the price of the iPad 2 to £329 rival manufacturers did the same with their products such as Motorola, while RIM had already cut the price of the BlackBerry PlayBook to only £169 last year. Microsoft will be launching Windows 8 and Windows RT later this year, which will likely see a number of new products increasing tablet PC competition even further.

Does the £260 price tempt you to get the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1?
