It seems that the upgrading of a lot of Android hardware to the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system hasn’t exactly ran smoothly since it was first released late last year, as many handsets that were once flagship devices for various manufacturers are still waiting to be upgraded, but today we can tell you that the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS update resumes with no OTA.
Last week we reported that the new operating system had started to arrive on AT&T’s version of the Samsung Galaxy S2, but after only a short time it was pulled, but today as the Android Police are reporting in an article the Android Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade is now available for users of the handset.
The version of the new operating system is Android 4.0.3 and was briefly available last week via the Samsung Kies update software, but the manufacturer took down the file and said it was only a “test”. Users from the XDA forum have reported successfully installing the update via Kies and on stock devices, but it is looking like the update will not be available via an over the air update.
It will instead be restricted to Samsung’s PC software so users will have to connect their handset to their computer via a cable to update it. The version now available appears to be identical to the software that was released last week, and the new operating system should bring some nice user interface improvements, various bug fixes, and some redesigned apps.
Samsung’s TouchWiz Android overlay will of course still be available but the update comes as Google are expected to announce Android 4.1 Jelly Bean this week, and the possibility of a release on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
