Samsung Galaxy S4 Active press photo & tenuous release clue

We’ve been bringing readers plenty of news about the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active smartphone although Samsung has still not officially announced this device. We think it’s highly likely that it will get the official nod at an event to be held in London on June 20, along with the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, and now a press shot has emerged of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active for AT&T and may be giving a tenuous release clue.

Previously we showed you a sneak peek video of the Galaxy S4 Active and this latest leaked image of the device with AT&T branding comes from @evleaks, who are fast gaining themselves a reputation of being a very reliable source of leaked smartphone photos. The Galaxy S4 Active is a variation of the Galaxy S4 but has the added benefit of being dust and waterproof as well as tough.

Unofficial specs include a 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor with Adreno 320 graphics, 5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD. Other unconfirmed specs include an 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video at 30fps, 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0 + LE, NFC, a 2600 mAh battery and an IR Blaster. It runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean skinned with Samsung’s TouchWiz Nature UX.

The Galaxy S4 Active (SGH-I537) comes in two color options, dark gray or teal. Interestingly the image shows the Galaxy S4 Active showing a date of June 21st and we wonder if this might be a clue for the release date? Other Samsung phones expected to arrive on AT&T soon include the Galaxy S4 Mini (SGH-I257) and the Galaxy Mega 6.3 (SGH-I527).

We’ll be following the June 20th Samsung event in London very closely and will bring you details of what is announced there. Are you a prospective customer of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active? How much are you prepared to pay for this smartphone? Let us have your comments about this.
