Asus ZenWatch release will be extremely limited

Asus unveiled the Asus ZenWatch at IFA 2014, but it’s been very quiet on the ZenWatch front since that time. Today, we learned a bit more about the Asus ZenWatch release date, and it’s not necessarily good news.

VR-Zone is reporting that the Asus ZenWatch is still on track for a November debut, but that the supply is going to be extremely limited at launch. The smartwatch is set to hit Taiwan next month, and if the report is true, that limited run may only produce around 300 units. Definitely not good news if you liked the style (and rumored price) of the ZenWatch.

There is no explanation given for the shortages, so it’s hard to figure out why Asus would even bother doing a run of only 300 units for Taiwan. The device will have a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage whenever it arrives — certainly nothing to sneeze at. That said, a delay or shortages could make the Asus ZenWatch obsolete before it ever comes to Europe or the US.

If the Asus ZenWatch release isn’t widespread, it will certainly irk a few of their fans, but it’s not a huge deal in the scheme of things. If you really want a smartwatch, there will be plenty to choose from at various prices and in a variety of styles. 2014 is definitely the year of the smartwatch, it may just be 2015 before Asus goes global with their ZenWatch.

Will you be disappointed if the ZenWatch release doesn’t come until next year?
