Pokémon GO Plus wearable announced for $35

Pokemon Go Plus

Next month gamers around the globe will be able to go out and catch virtual Pokémon in the wild. The Pokémon GO release date is right around the corner, and Nintendo has just announced a new accessory for gamers called Pokémon GO Plus.

While we wait for Pokémon GO to officially arrive, it is safe to say people are getting a wee bit excited. The game has been in a slow soft-launch since last year, before opening its doors to a wider Beta audience not long ago. If you didn’t get in on that Beta, you won’t have to wait too much longer to play the game on your mobile, and the Pokémon GO Plus wearable can help you get into the spirit ahead of the Pokémon GO release date.

Nintendo put on a pretty good showing with the new Zelda game at E3, and they also dropped a bit of news on Pokémon GO. They confirmed the game’s release date for July while also announcing a new wearable that we didn’t see coming. The Pokémon GO Plus is an accessory that will allow you to try to catch Pokémon without grabbing for your smartphone and it’s built to be worn on a bracelet or clipped on to your clothing or other gear.

Details are still a little sparse on the Pokémon GO Plus wearable, but they have told us a few things it will allow you do in the game. There’s a button that will let you snatch up a Pokémon if you happen to come across one and you will be able to snag items as well. If you are near a PokéStop location, Pokémon Eggs, Berries, and Pokémon Balls will become available, the latter being especially important as we know they will be limited to a degree and you can’t catch Pokémon without a Poké Ball.

At the moment, we don’t have an exact release date for the Pokémon GO Plus accessory, but we know it’s going to set you back $35 when it lands. We expect it to launch a bit before or alongside GO and it should be quite popular, so you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for the gadget so you don’t have to turn to the secondary market if they sell out. Given the popularity of Pokémon, that could certainly happen initially.
