Orange HTC Desire Android 2.2 Update Problems and Review

Yesterday we told you about the new roll out of the HTC Desire Android 2.2 Froyo update and that it is now ready to download and install, well according to our readers comments many of you are not seeing the update.

You have no doubt been to Settings > About Phone > System Software Updates > to see if it is there and have not been successful, apparently the new update would bring new features such as HTML 5 support and turning your handset into a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot.

If you visit TwitLonger you will see a message that says, “@CKrypt1 Froyo is available to everyone on a HTC Desire on Orange UK. It mightn’t always appear on your updates straight away due to the amount of traffic going through HTC’s servers”.

Here are a few comments sent in to phonesreview.co.uk:

Can’t download the update. First said no update, then said there was- download failed and now it can’t find the update again?

The new features are rubbish it’s not the full froyo home screen is still the same and apps screen is not 3D.

I’ve checked on my HTC Desire whether Android 2.2 is available but I have had no luck. I have even tried ringing Orange customer support and they woman I spoke to informs me that the technical support told her that the release hasn’t happened yet and that I need to contact HTC directly! Is the news of the release of Android 2.2 true or doe Orange not have a clue what is going on? I think it’s the latter!

I just checked via Settings > About Phone > System Software Updates > and it told me that my system was already up to date, no updates to install. I checked the kernel and it’s still on version 2.1 update 1.

Please do let us know if you have received the Orange HTC Desire Android 2.2 aka Froyo update, we would also like to know if you have experienced any problems at all with the update itself (If you have it that is).
