Huawei Ascend D Quad phone hopeful July release

It wasn’t long ago that smartphones which were powered by dual core processors were the big thing, but now that is so yesterday as 2012 looks to be the year of the quad core powered device. One such device is the Huawei Ascend D Quad phone that will hopefully see a July release date.

The handset was officially announced at last month’s MWC 2012 event in Spain, and will be the company’s first foray into quad core smartphones, which according to Unwired View could be released sooner than some think. A Chinese website is claiming that Huawei will begin production of the Ascend D Quad in June with a release in early July.

Huawei’s new handset will have some stiff competition by that time in the shape of the Samsung Galaxy S III and HTCs One X, which should both feature quad core processors. There is also a chance Apple’s next iPhone may have hit the market by then as well, so Huawei will really need something to make their handset standout, and a lower price would be nice.

To recap the Huawei Ascend D Quad will feature a lovely 4.5-inch IPS HD display with1280 x 720 resolution. It will come running Androids Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, eight megapixel backside illuminated rear camera that is capable of 1080p video capture, 1.3 megapixel front shooter, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in memory that can be expanded via micro SD card, Dolby Mobile 3.0 Plus sound, GPS, Wi-Fi, HSPA 21Mbps, and will be powered by the 1.2 GHz quad core processor developed by Huawei.

Benchmark tests put the Huawei quad core processor ahead of Nvidia’s much talked about Tegra 3 chip, and will be housed in a smartphone that is really thin. Currently there is no information regarding pricing for the handset, but as we get closer to the proposed launch timeframe some online retailers may begin listing the device for pre-order, which may at least give us some idea of how much it will cost us.
