Sony Ericsson looking at Android OS?

Under: Mobile Phones, News, Sony Ericsson Date: September 25th, 2008

Sony Ericsson, at a media event in Copenhagen this week confirmed they have been testing Android, however Sony Ericsson also stated they have no immediate plans to launch a new mobile phone based on the Android platform.

Sony Ericsson’s chief technology architect, Mats Lindoff, has said Sony Ericsson been testing Android with prototype devices, and that Google’s was a “holistic” approach.

Lindoff says: “[But] to go with mass production and working with prototypes are two different things. If you want to give every service away to Google, then Android is the perfect solution.”

The main reason Sony Ericsson went with Windows Mobile for the Xperia X1 was to crack the US market, but that doesn’t rule out the option using Symbian in future.
