Mobile phone driving offences up 200% in Lancashire UK

Under: News Date: October 19th, 2008

When will people realise just how dangerous it is to use a mobile phone without a hands-free kit whilst driving? Apparently the amount of motorists in Lancashire who have been prosecuted for using their mobile phones whilst driving has significantly increased.

Figures now available show that court action due to this offence, which was made illegal in 2003, has in the last two years increased by 200%.

These new Ministry of Justice figures come three months after Sarah Taylor from Manchester, received a 6 year jail sentence for smashing into the vehicle of Melanie Lee, while Taylor was on her mobile phone, resulting in the death of Lee.
