Boss of RIM expects smartphone market to continue to grow

The president of RIM, Mike Lazaridis is still confident in growth in the smartphone market, he remarked at a press conference at Vodafone PLC’s German headquarters in Dusseldorf, and this comment follows after Nokia had warned on Friday that its 4th quarter sales and profit would be disappointingly low and expects the industry volumes to decline during 09.

According to Lazaridis, despite economic crisis everyone needs communication devices and the smartphone market outpaces the overall mobile phone sector.

Research In Motion posted 2nd quarter revenue of $2.58 billion and diluted earnings per share of $0.86. RIM boss, Lazaridis, declined to comment on whether the company maintains its 3rd quarter forecast.
