The obvious rivalry between Microsoft and Apple has led to whispers that maybe Microsoft will enter the world of the mobile phone and develop their own mobile handset. Now the latest net whispers place Microsoft at a stage whereby they are actually working on a new mobile phone.

The whisper comes from a “well placed sources” saying that Microsoft is developing a handset that is based on NVIDIA’s all-in-one NVIDIA Tegra mobile chipset.

If all goes well apparently Microsoft will debut this new NVIDIA Tegra based mobile phone during next year’s Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona, and shipping will begin shortly after.
