Nokia acquires Symbian Limited

Nokia has announced that it now owns Symbian Limited as all conditions to Nokia’s offer to acquire Symbian Ltd have been fulfilled and has received acceptance of 99.9 percent of the total Symbian shares.

The acquisition by Nokia of Symbian Limited, the software company who develops and licenses Symbian OS for mobile phones, is a fundamental step in the further establishment of the Symbian Foundation. Further information on the Symbian Foundation can be found via www.symbianfoundation.org

The Symbian Foundation already incorporates Nokia, AT&T, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Electronics, LG Electronics, NTT DoCoMo, Vodafone and Texas Instruments, with others joining. It is planned that as of the 1st of February 09 all Symbian employees will become employees of Nokia.
