Palm Pre: Should it launch for $150?

Under: Mobile Phones
Date: February 12th, 2009

The Palm Pre smartphone, how much should it be sold for? Well apparently there have been whispers from inside Sprint that the new Palm Pre smartphone could well go for only $150.00 along with a two year agreement, and without contract for $549.00.

If this rumour comes to reality it will mean the Palm Pre sells for actually less that say the Samsung Instinct at launch, and would undoubtedly make the Palm Pre cheaper that the BlackBerry 8830, and the HTC Touch Diamond.

Realistically though we can see the Palm Pre going for around the $179 to $199 mark, but with the economy the way it is at present anything is possible.

If they don’t keep it below US$200 then they will be shooting themselves in the foot. When I can grab an Iphone for $99 from WalMart it doesn’t make sense to try to do battle with a leader when you handicap yourself right out of the gate.

Sprint already has a slew of smartphone-types for $199 with 2 yr plan. I’d not be willing to go much above that.
