GPS Enabled Smartphones Shipments Rise to 77 million in 09

According to an article over on dmwmedia, they cite a report from market research firm Strategy Analytics that worldwide shipments of smartphones equipped with GPS will grow some 34 percent this year from 57 million in 08 to 77 million in 09.

Apparently the leap in adoption has been put down to consumer acceptance of vehicle based devices such as Garmin and TomTom in the United States of America and Europe.

Joanne Blight of Strategy Alanytics has said GPS enabled smartphones like the iPhone and Nokia N97 are a high growth segment which continues to expand during this tough economy.
