Mobile Phones trailed as learning tool in schools

The mobile phone has been seen as a disruption in the school classroom in the past, but the Inkster Public School District in Michigan thinks otherwise and thus is working with Sprint and GoKnow Learning Inc to change the outlook of mobile phone use in the classroom from that of a nuisance to a powerful learning tool.

Inkster approached Sprint for a trial whereby Sprint mobile phones were loaded with GoKnow software and then integrated into the school classroom. The trail showed results beyond the expectations of Inkster, showing that after the trial students involved had increased their achievement scores by 25% on average.

The success of the trial means that Inkster Public Schools proposes to implement the mobile phone tech into all middle and high schools during the 20110 to 2011 school year.
