Official Twitter Android App announcement, no more third-party apps

At the Twitter Chirp Conference it was announced by Evan Williams that there would be a new launch of an Android app via the microblogging network.

We are not sure if Twitter will be acquiring an existing app like Tweetie for example, not to sure if the company will partner with a certain developer or mobile device maker (as it did with RIM for the BlackBerry Twitter app) according to Washington Post.

As we know Twitter is big business and so much so the company already acquired Tweetie, which is the highly popular app for the iPhone, this app will now be called Twitter for iPhone and yes it will be free.

Twitter also announced that RIM’s BlackBerry app will indeed be an official Twitter app for the device, all of this basically means there will be no third-party Twitter apps but instead will be official apps.

Please watch the Twitter Chirp full live coverage via Tech Crunch, is it a good idea to get rid of third-party Twitter apps in favour of official ones?
