Apple’s iPhone Policies Will Be Formally Investigated by FTC

When Apple changed their developer policies has cause a bit of a storm and attracted the watchful eyes of the US Federal Trade Commission and the US Department of Justice and for some time both authorities have been mulling over which would head up any possible investigation.

Well according to Michael Bettiol over at the Boy Genius Report, a recent article over on the WSJ has it that the authorities have now agreed that the US Federal Trade Commission will open a formal probe into Apple’s iPhone policies.

The FTC investigation will delve deep into whether Apple is prohibiting developers from using cross-compliers is anti-competitive, although as for whether the FTC will also take a look at Apple’s ban on Adobe Flash along with section 3.3.9 of the iOS Developer Agreement isn’t yet clear.

Many believe that Apple has far too much control over their products and thus creates a lack of competition which can hurt consumers and developers, but no doubt the FTC have a long hard investigation ahead, and neither the FTC nor Apple have commented on the matter yet; more as and when we hear.
