Apple Removes iPhone 4 Bumpers from Online Store

In presumably a move to make sure they have enough iPhone 4 bumper cases stockpiled for the iPhone 4 bumper case giveaway over the iPhone 4 antenna issue, it appears that Apple has stopped offering the bumper cases via the Apple Online Store.

According to an article over on Information Week by Paul McDougall, the previously offered $ 29 iPhone Bumper case is now showing $0.00 and is also unavailable for purchase.

Steve Jobs did state during the Apple press conference that every iPhone 4 user would receive a free bumper case to resolve the antenna issue, although they simply couldn’t manufacture enough quick enough.

So it would appear that Apple has now halted offering the bumper for sale as it gears up for that iPhone 4 bumper giveaway which should begin this week and is said to cost Apple a cool $175 million.

  1. bloomberg says:

he didn't say everyone would get a bumper, he said everyone would get a case, as they can't manufacture enough bumpers to go around. They were previously unavailable anyway as people would get a full refund on them if bought..

  2. Making steps to refund cases wont make up for the lack of function over form.

It's a shame to see so many issues with the iPhone 4 after so many people waited for it's release. What's more of a shame is that it seems Apple knew about some of these issues already, such as the problem with reception.

If a brand new company brought out a product and then told you needed to pay a further £25 to make it work properly, you wouldn't bother. But Apple have created such a loyal following that people may just put up with what issues there are for the sake of owning the latest Apple product. Personally, I'd be happier with an older iPhone – at least then the issues are all ironed out.

However, it's also interesting to see how much excitement new technologies can bring. New technology and innovation is important for new business, illustrated by entrepreneurship grants and new business competitions like http://www.ukesnc.com.

    Guess it's not all bad!
