HTC One XL with blissful Australian Telstra 4G

There’s good news today for Australian readers who may have been waiting for the flagship HTC smartphone, the HTC One XL to appear with Telstra 4G compatibility. A launch was anticipated by the telco within the next couple of months but an independent retailer now has this phone on sale.

Mobicity says that the version of the HTC One XL that it is selling will fully function on Telstra’s Next G 4G network and has guaranteed that. We reckon that the impressive high-end specs alongside the very latest Android 4.0 ICS operating system and 4G network suitability look set to see this one fly off the shelves.

Although Telstra announced back in March that it would be carrying two of the HTC One Series smartphones, neither has yet been launched, seemingly because they are still undergoing testing on the telco’s 4G network. 3G versions of the HTC One X have been launched on Optus and Vodafone but it’s likely that many potential customers have held off their purchases hoping for a 4G version. For those people today’s news that the HTC One XL is heading to the vastly faster Telstra 4G network will be music to the ears.

News of this came to us from Delimiter sourced from Ausdroid and apparently Mobicity began selling an unlocked version of the HTC One XL yesterday. Mobicity’s website has a statement that reads, “The HTC One XL X325s has been exclusively tested by MobiCity on Telstra’s new high speed, Long Term Evolution (LTE) 4G network and has hit astonishing speeds of over 54mbps download and 35mbps upload. It’s also Telstra Next G compatible, meaning you can take advantage of Telstra’s extensive network coverage and high data speeds in more places.”

Specs and features of the Mobicity version of the HTC One XL include a 4.7-inch HD touchscreen with resolution of 1280 x 720, a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor (instead of the NVIDIA quad-core to enable 4G capability), 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel rear camera and 1800mAh battery. At 129g and only 8.9mm thick, unlocked and suitable for using on the 3G networks of Optus and Vodafone as well it seems that Mobicity could have a hit on its hands as at present there’s very little real competition to it around.

If you want to take a look at more details or order the HTC One XL 4G from Mobicity head to this order page where you’ll see the price is currently $829.00, down from the regular price of $1,029.00. What do you think of this news? Were you hoping for the HTC One XL 4G on Telstra and if so, will you be taking advantage of the Mobicity deal? Let us know with your comments.
