Will Samsung Galaxy S Gain Android Gingerbread?

As you know, Samsung has made a few Android smartphones and the most recent being the new Google Nexus S which runs Google latest and greatest operating system Android 2.3 Gingerbread, so one would be perfectly right to assume that the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone would get upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, right?

Wrong! As according to an article over on Engadget by Vlad Savov, the guys over at Pocket-lint got onto Samsung and asked that very question, will the Samsung Galaxy S see Gingerbread and was given the following reply from a UK contact…

“In case a new version of Android operating system is publicly announced and released, Samsung will review the possibility of implementation of such new version to the existing Samsung products with Android operating system (“Update”).

Such a review will be based on various factors including, without limitation, the overall effect of such Update to Samsung products, the system requirements, the structural limitations, and the level of cooperation from the component suppliers and the software licensors.”

So it would appear that Samsung needs to evaluate the effects Android 2.3 Gingerbread would have on their device before considering making it available to such devices as the Samsung Galaxy S, basically saying maybe or maybe not which only leaves Samsung Galaxy S owner wondering if they will gain the update.

However, apparently this is somewhat of a mixed message as apparently Samsung Mobile India has used their Twitter account to say “Gingerbread will be available for Galaxy S users.”

Leaves you kind of wondering is one arm of Samsung knows what the other arm of Samsung is doing doesn’t it? Of course the biggest pain in the butt will be if the Samsung Galaxy S does get updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread Sammy will probably make users grab the upgrade via Samsung Kies which is something quite a few owners have issues with as reported (here)
