Apple iPhone 3G goes to India 11th July with Bharti Airtel

India is gaining the latest Apple iPhone 3G mobile phone through Apple and Bharti Airtel. The iPhone 3G combines all of the superb features of the first generation Apple iPhone with 3G networking, GPS built-in for location based mobile services, and the addition of Microsoft ActiveSync via iPhone 2.0 update along with a multitude of pre-built iphone SDK third-party apps.

On hearing the Apple iPhone 3G was coming to India, the president and CEO of Bharti Airtel, Manoj Kohli said: “We are delighted with the opportunity to bring the innovative iPhone 3G to India. As India’s leading telecom operator, Bharti Airtel has always stood for innovation and customer delight. With our reach across the country and iPhone’s revolutionary features, we have a valuable proposition for our customers in India.”

Tim Cook, COO of Apple said: “We are thrilled to be working with Bharti Airtel, India’s leading integrated telecom company, to bring iPhone 3G to millions of mobile customers in India. We can’t wait to get this revolutionary product in the hands of even more people around the world.”

Bhartl Airtel Limited is a group o company of Bharti Enterprises, and is India’s leading integrated telecom provider with an cumulative of 66.69 million customers which consists of 64.37 million mobile phone customers. In the BusinessWeek IT 100 list 2007, Bharti Airtel was rated among the best performing companies in the world.

Bharti Airtel customers wishing to purchase the Apple iPhone 3G will find them available at Airtel Relationship Centres and details of pricing and availability will be announced later.

    Yes, exactly. I don’t think they’re going to release it before September/October this year.
    And as for the price, i have NO clue.
    I’ve been asking around, and the current iPhone (v1.1.4) costs ~Rs. 28,000 min and ~ Rs. 36,000 max at Palika bazaar. It was fully unlocked, by the way.
    But that is not the point. I really need to know the price of the NEW 3G iPhone. Steve Jobs said that it won’t cost “More than $199” in ANY of the countries, where they’re going to release it. Let’s hope for the best.

In fight for launching iPhone first in India before Bharati Airtel, they won the fight. It was speculated that Vodafone is going to launch iPhone only in December end and Bharat Airtel will launch near around Diwal festival to woo customer. But as it seems Vodafone is started booking from today, so Bharati is lacking behind only. With this Vodafone already ended many speculation whether Apple is going to launch iPhone 3G or the older version. iPhone 3G will be avilable in India in 8Gb and 16 Gb version. The date for new iPhone worlwide release is 11th July. May be they will launch iPhone 3G in India on same date.

  3. The real price has come.the iPhone 3G will be available in India from August 22, 2008
    It will be available in 8GB & 16GB models, priced at Rs 31,000 and Rs 36,100 respectively.
