HTC Touch Pro, Samsung Omnia and Saga coming to Verizon

If you are not too crazy about owning a BlackBerry, Verizon Wireless may have the answer because they are about to launch three mobile handsets under the Verizon umbrella ready to snap up your Christmas cash.

The Samsung Omnia with its large touch-screen, 5 megapixel camera, Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, 8GB internal memory and GPS, now falls under the Verizon branding.

The much acclaimed HTC Touch Pro, the slightly larger cousin of the HTC Touch Diamond, is a slider design with full QWERTY keyboard, VGA display, combining touch-screen and physical keyboards in one unit.

Last comes the Samsung i770 Saga, a replacement of the Samsung i760 with cool D-pad/mouse set up, but not a patch on the Touch Pro or Omnia. All three will be with Verizon before the holidays hit.

I think that it is great that touch screens are becoming more the norm, but what I do not understand is why the majority of phone manufactures (and cell phone providers) continue to insist that if you have a touch screen you need no physical dialing pad (or insist on providing one only with a QWERTY keyboard)! It is much easier to dial on a physical 12 key dialing pad, but a QWERTY keyboard take up too much real estate.
