Apple announce DRM free music on iTunes at Macworld 2009

At Macworld 2009 in San Francisco, Apple marketing guru Phil Shiller announced 3 major changed to the Apple iTunes Store and as of today, all music on iTunes will be sold in DRM free format due to Apple linking the deal with Sony BGM, Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group.

Apple has stated that 8 out of 10 million songs on iTunes are available DRM free as of now while the other 2 million will become DRM free by March.

However, Apple will not provide users who previously brought DRM music on iTunes with DRM free versions free of cost; rather Apple insists Apple iPhone users upgrade their exiting DRM tracks to DRM free format at a cost of 30 cents per song or 30% of the album price.
