RIM BlackBerry Smartphones to get IBM Lotus Apps

The word is users of Research In Motion’s BlackBerry smartphones will now have access to a large range of IBM Lotus collaboration apps IBM Lotus announced at Lotusphere.

RIM and IBM are to offer Lotus software and development tools for BlackBerry handsets and will be rolled out through 2009.

In Q2 BlackBerry owners can have access to documentation using the Lotus Symphony personal productivity app while at a later date support for presentations and spreadsheets will become available and by mid 09, access to Lotus Connections social networking blogs, communities and activities.

Both companies are also working toward developing software based on Lotus Quickr 2.0 content management application which will allow BlackBerry users to share Quickr content.
