Orange and Barclaycard team to deliver mobile phone payment scheme

An agreement has been struck between Orange and Barclaycard to develop contact-less payment services via mobile phones. This service will be based on NFT, near-field communications technology.

With NFT the mobile phone user can wave their mobile handset over an in-store reader and thus pay for the purchase.

Nothing on the agreement is set in concrete yet as to which hardware this partnership will eventually herald, but the service will be for transport, rewards and ticketing. Head of Orange UK, Tom Alexander has said that today you use cash or credit card, but tomorrow you’ll be using your mobile phone.

Anyone ever heard of cash before?
