23 percent of mobile devices by 2013 will be smartphones

The high demand for better and more advanced mobile phone is forcing mobile phone manufacturers to design higher technologically advanced mobile handsets and this has an effect on public sector bodies planning the next generation of their e-Government services.

A new smartphone report by Juniper research states smartphones will account for 23 percent of all new mobile handsets by 2013. Driving the interest in smartphones will be the app stores and their specialised apps.

The rapid success of the Apple iTunes App Store has underscored the speed in which smartphones are being adopted by customers, and by 2013 annual smartphone sales will hit about 300 million.
