Rumour: Has AT&T or Apple pulled SlingPlayer iPhone App?

It appears that certain mobile carriers have a large say in what gets allowed into the Apple iTunes App Store, as a report by BGR has it that SlingPlayer for iPhone has been given the order of the boot.

Now apparently the SlingPlayer for iPhone app conformed to all of Apple’s requirements for apps and interfaces, but the rumoured reason for Apple’s denial of SlingPlayer is apparently because AT&T asked them to not allow it.

Word is AT&T is worried about network bandwidth consumption and had requested Apple to reject the SlingPlayer application. If so, then just how many more apps will carriers ask to be rejected due to bandwidth consumption concerns?

So readers, should carriers have a say in just what apps are allowed in the App Store?
