Driving and Text Messaging: New study report into crashes

Seems to me that the States is somewhat behind the UK when it comes to using a mobile phone whilst driving, as CRN reports that a Virginia Tech Transportation Institute study calls for a law to prohibit text messaging when driving.

The study concluded that text messaging when driving a vehicle can increase the risk of a crash by 23 times. The study surveyed drivers over some 3 million road miles and found that manual manipulation of a mobile phone delivers a higher risk for drivers of all types of vehicle.

This is something we over in the UK have known for quite some time, yet there are still those who act like an idiot and simply don’t do the hands-free option. Time for the USA to do some catching up on the mobile phone usage when driving I would think.
