Apple, Google, Nokia, Smartphone Users, and the Suing Game

It seems to be quite a big thing in the mobile phone arena these days for one company to file a lawsuit against another, or for a mobile phone user to sue for one reason or another, and all basically in an attempt to gain a large payout at the end of it.

Recently Nokia filed a lawsuit against Apple over patent infringements, and in return Apple retaliated by counter-suing Nokia for more patent infringements. AT&T recently filed a lawsuit against Verizon over 3G coverage claims, although one has to say that particular one ended amicably with both sides dropping the lawsuits.

The most recent possible legal action comes to light that Google may be sued by the Philip K Dick Estate due to Google’s use of the name Nexus One for their new Android smartphone, whether that will come to anything or an out of court settlement will be reached remains to be seen.

But it’s not just the big names who go the legal route, as in the past many smartphone users have opted to mount legal action over their smartphone, whether it be the iPhone, Palm Pre, BlackBerry or other.

The point is, the smartphone world is becoming just as big a battlefield in the courtroom as it is in the mobile arena as smartphone battles against smartphone for which is the best handset available. But wouldn’t it be much easier for whatever aggrieved parties to get round a table and negotiate before such things hit the news and end up in the courts?
