Alcatel OT-990 O2 UK Release, Price & Preview: Android

It has been confirmed that the new Alcatel OT-990 Android phone will be released by O2 UK in August; this will be a very cheap mobile phone.

O2 UK will be releasing the Alcatel OT-990 on PAYG for around £100; the Alcatel OT-980 comes with a keyboard whereas the OT-990 does not. However, it will come running Google Android 2.2 operating system and will get the Android 2.3 software update not long after this year.

The OT-990 will be exclusive to O2 as said on Pay As You Go, main features include a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen with a 480×320 resolution, 12.2mm thick, 5-megapixel camera with flash, 600MHz processor and touch sensitive buttons below the screen, it also has a raised physical home button.

ElectricPig has given this mobile phone a great preview and they say, overall it is an unskilled Android phone for under £100, which is music to their ears. If it gains the Gingerbread update then that is fantastic, this is a great budget handset.

The Alcatel OT-990 has a rubberised back cover that is smudge resistant and has the Google logo; do not quote us on that as that could change to an O2 logo. Apparently an O2 Facebook competition may happen in June where readers can vote for a different back panel on the Alcatel OT-990.

Please let us know if this mobile phone interests you, we would love your feedback. Is this going to be a great O2 UK budget phone or will it be a sales flop?
