Acer Iconia Tab A510 release confusion

Tablet PC manufacturers besides Apple have really begun to get their act together in recent times and are offering consumers worthy devices to the iPad. One such company is Acer with their Iconia Tab A510, and today we have some news about the devices UK release and some confusion surrounding it.

An article over at the Inquirer is reporting that the company will launch an Olympic branded version of the tablet next month via the Carphone Warehouse. The device is basically a reworked version of the original Acer Iconia Tab 510, and will come with the Olympic rings engraved on the back.

It will also be bundled with a trail period of Eurosport’s channels for the duration of the Games, and will be an alternative to the BBC coverage. The device has already got some good reviews and to recap will come running the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system straight from the box, and is powered by the Tegra 3 quad core processor.

The device also has a five megapixel camera with 720p video capture, and there is support for an extra 32GB of memory via the microSD port, and while the retailer didn’t reveal a date for the device it did say it will cost £349.99 SIM free. There may be a delay with this release date though as according to the Android Community both the Iconia Tab A510 and A511 have reportedly been hit by a shipment delay.

Acer has taken to its German Facebook page and stated that there will be a delay in the delivery of the devices because of a faulty component for the two tablets. Acer didn’t say when fresh batches of the tablet PCs would be shipped out, but did reveal that current owners of the devices have nothing to worry about concerning the quality of the products already sold.

The problems affecting components will not affect the launch of the Iconia Tab A700 in Europe though, with the higher resolution device slated for a June release. It is not known if these issues will affect the UK launch of the Iconia Tab A510 though, so we will just have to wait and see.

Are you thinking of getting the Acer Iconia A510?
