BlackBerry 10 possibly coming earlier than expected

Research In Motion’s fortunes in the mobile space have taken quite a bashing in the past, and I am sure most are aware that RIM is pinning all their hopes on their new BlackBerry 10 operating system and devices. However the word was there would be a delay at getting BlackBerry 10 devices out into the mobile space until 2013, but if RIM is to turn their fortunes around then surely they need to get BB10 out there sooner rather than later.

Well this may now be the case, as according to the guys over at Ubergizmo by way of the Ottawa Citizen, Research In Motion is apparently limiting summer vacations along with ordering 6-day work weeks for its workers at their Ottawa HQ due to their plan to get BlackBerry 10 out earlier than expected.

Ottawa is the ‘epicentre’ of development of BlackBerry 10 software and devices, and RIM has confirmed that the intensified work schedule is down to wanting to get BlackBerry 10 out to the market.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Research In Motions said, “The successful launch of the BlackBerry 10 platform, and the delivery of high quality, full-featured BlackBerry 10 smartphones, remains the company’s No. 1 priority, and we’re incredibly proud of the commitment shown by all RIM employees as we work toward this goal.”

So it would appear that RIM has opened their eyes and have finally realised that they can’t go on as they are, and need to get BlackBerry 10 out there before next year; however, whether getting BlackBerry 10 devices out to the mobile space will drag RIM back to their former glory remains to be seen.

What do our readers think about BlackBerry 10, will it be enough to turn RIM’s failing fortunes around, or do you think BB10 or not, RIM’s days are numbered?
