Motorola Moto G vs Sony Xperia M2 spec battle

While it is nice to have the option of owning the latest and greatest Android smartphones not everyone has the money or wants to spend so much on a mobile device. This is where mid-range handsets come in and luckily there is a growing range becoming available, and we are today looking at the Motorola Moto G vs. Sony Xperia M2 in a specification battle.

The Moto G was launched last year and has been well received by many while the Sony Xperia M2 was only recently announced by the company, but how do they compare spec wise?

Display
The Sony Xperia M2 has a 4.8-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display at a resolution of 540 x 960 and a 229ppi pixel density, which compares to the Motorola Moto G that has a 4.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display at a resolution of 720 x 1280 and 326ppi.

Processor
Under the hood of the Moto G is the quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, while the Sony has the same chip powering the device.

RAM & Storage
The Sony Xperia M2 has 1GB of RAM with 8GB of storage with expansion possible up to 32GB, while the Moto G has 1GB of RAM with either 8GB or 16GB of un-expandable storage.

Cameras
On the Moto G we have a 5-megapixel rear facing camera with autofocus and LED flash capable of 720p video capture, while around the front is a 1.3-megapixel unit. The Sony meanwhile has an 8-megapixel rear camera also with autofocus and LED flash but is capable of 1080p video capture, but so far Sony has not provided exact details of the front camera.

Operating system
The New Sony will ship running the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system while the Moto G has been treated to the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update over the last few weeks.

Battery & Measurements
The Motorola Moto G is fitted with a non-removable 2,070 mAh battery fitted inside a form factor measuring 129.9mm x 65.9mm x 11.6 mm weighing 143 grams, which compares to the Sony that has a 2,300 mAh battery inside a body measuring 139.7mm x 71.1mm x 8.6 mm weighing 148 grams.
