Occasionally an app comes along that generates a huge amount of attention and a new Bacon app that acts as an alarm clock is one such example. The Oscar Mayer Wake Up & Smell the Bacon app for iOS devices is now available at the App Store, though it only works with a special external device, which is available in limited numbers.

Believe it or not this enables you to wake up to the sound of bacon frying and the smell of sizzling bacon, and just thinking of this makes our mouths water. The external scent device that is needed to accompany the app plugs into the headphone jack, and 4,700 of these are being distributed by the Oscar Mayer Institute for the Advancement of Bacon.

These will not be available to buy in stores but you can try to get the dongle device on the Oscar Mayer website by applying before April 4th. The free Wake Up and Smell the Bacon app can be found on the App Store, and it’s compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later.
