If you know that saying about “the new boss is the same as the old boss”, well folks, today we just got word about the Huawei Mate 9 Pro, which became official during a special event held in China. As you already know, Huawei is a Chinese based state-owned tech giant, working hard at conquering the known universe. I am talking about conquering market share, don’t get me wrong.

In order to achieve that, Huawei started a sort of a tech-war with its western counterparts, revealing one flagship after another in the last 6 months or so. Let me mention just the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design and the “vanilla” Mate 9. Both smartphones boasted high-end AMOLED displays, in-house made Kirin 960 chip-sets and Leica’s second generation dual camera setup. Needless to say, at least in the photography department, the Mate 9’s are among the best on the market, giving frills to established manufacturers, the likes of Samsung and Apple due to the fact that Huawei-made smartphones are significantly cheaper than their counterparts. The vanilla Mate 9 sports a 5.9 inches flat screen of full HD resolution, roaming into phablet territory, while the Porsche’s is smaller and curved, standing at 5.5” but featuring 1440p/QHD resolution.

Only a day after these two babies were officially revealed, the rumor mill started doing what it does best, leaking the imminent arrival of the Huawei Mate 9 Pro. And today, the latest device in Huawei’s lineup was officially released, being everything its fans dreamed and hoped for, i.e. a Mate 9 Porsche Design basically sans the hefty price tag. Okay, and without the premium “clothing”, if you can live without that.

So, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro boasts a 5.5” AMOLED display of QHD resolution and it runs on the high-end Kirin 960 system on chip, with 4 GB/6 GB of RAM and the state of the art Leica-branded dual camera setup on the rear. Just like the Porsche version, the finger print sensor is located on the front-panel. As I am writing this article, the device  it’s available on pre-order in China only in gold, grey, rose gold and silver colorways for $686/ CNY 4,699 and there’s no word about its availability for the rest of the world.
