Apparently, the Apple iPhone 2.2 OS beta 1 that was seeded to iPhone developers last week included a reforested iPhone Mobile Safari UI.
The newly designed IPhone Mobile Safari has new done away with the magnifying glass icon and in its place has substituted a search bar that rides shotgun alongside the URL bar similar to the desktop version.
Also the refresh button has been shifted from beside the URL bar and now sits within the URL bar, which brings the new iPhone Mobile Safari UI more in line with the Safari desktop browser version.
