Mobile carriers may be forced to allow VoIP by EU

Well now, remember I posted the other day about mobile carriers blocking VoIP on their networks, such as Skype? Well according to a report on wirelessweek, all that may soon have to change in favour of VoIP, in Europe anyway.

Apparently the European Union has prepared draft legislation which could well open smartphones to VoIP tech and force mobile carriers to allow VoIP to run on their networks.

The word is, European Union commissioner, Viviane Reding has stated that “action” should be taken against those mobile carriers who use their market share to “block innovative services”, so basically put Skype back on the menu.
