A scandal involving hit TV show American Idol and AT&T could well threaten to sink the popular reality series claims a report on the Calgary herald.

Critics claim AT&T, one of American Idol’s biggest sponsors, supplied mobile phones for free text messaging and issued instructions on how to cast blocks of votes to American Idol fans in Arkansas.

The result may have determined the votes to back Arkansas singer Kris Allen resulting in Allen beating rival Adam Lambert. Lambert supporters have been outraged and have been venting on Twitter and chatboards.

American Idol broadcasts that power texting is against the rules as it can influence the outcome. Fox broadcasting has as yet to respond to the allegations.

mathematically the numbers are huge. 100 loaned phones with free power programmed texting can make a DIFFERENCE of more than 12 million between the 2. pjdapm explain kris home town able to cast 40% of total votes.

AT&T IS HELPING ARKANSAS TO CHEAT! SHAME ON A BIG CO WITH NO ETHICS AND ACTING ON CONFLICTS OF INTERESTS. SHAME ON AI FOR ALLOWING THIS.

THE WORLD SHOUTS NONSENSE AT THE RESULTS. AI reputation will remain blemished with such a sponsor! !

You know, this sounds crazy, but I seriously have reconsidered buying an iphone because I would have to sign with AT&T and I seriously believe that the massive texting resulted in AL’s loss. Many of his fans are older and don’t text or don’t know how to text in bulk, so there definitely was an unfair advantage. But Adam is too good and wonderfully different to be a plain vanilla Disney/AI spokesperson, it would ruin his image and his career. So maybe it was best; now he’s free to do his own thing! But I still have a grudge against AT&T honestly; Apple should look into making other phone companies available for it’s phones!
