iTunes Rivals Spotify music service has been approved by Apple

On Thursday Apple approved the rival’s request to start selling music access on the iPhone, surprisingly an embrace of competition that could have been caused by an increased scrutiny of it’s clout.

Spotify, which is a digital music subscription company founded in Sweden, could well be offering phone owners a program through Apple’s online App Store very soon. It provides a free version with commercials and a premium service without. The iPhone version would be the latter of the two.

Spotify was created and started by Daniel Elk, who was formally chief technology officer at Stardoll, a social network aimed at young girls, and Martin Lorentzon who founded TradeDoubler the online marketing group. For more information visit ft.com
