Microsoft has announced that the first mobile phone to run Windows Mobile 6.5 will launch across the world on October the 6th and will includes Windows Mobile 6.5 phones running with Verizon Wireless, AT&T and Sprint reports Cnet.

This new batch of mobile handsets will be the 1st Microsoft will offer under the “Windows Phone” banner in an effort to bite a slice of the marketing power of Microsoft’s flagship desktop OS.

Windows 6.5 is seen as an interim upgrade and Microsoft has come under some flak due to the amount of time it has taken to evolve the Windows OS in comparison to the iPhone, Android, the Palm Pre and BlackBerry.
