Verizon Wireless has confirmed they are to offer the new Android based HTC Droid Eris as of November the 6th for $99 reports an article over at Reuters.

The HTC Droid Eris is a very similar smartphone to that of the HTC Hero handset which Sprint sells for $179.99 and thus the release of the Verizon Droid Eris will potentially put pressure on Sprint.

The HTC Droid Eris is the second Android based smartphone to join Verizon Wireless and follows the highly advertised Motorola Droid which also hits retail as of today the 6th of November, and Verizon is looking to create a buzz around both smartphone through the run up to Christmas.
