Novarra to be acquired by Nokia

The word is that privately held US mobile browser company, Novarra is to be acquired by Nokia reports an article over on emii by way of Reuters, and although as yet any financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed the deal is expected to be finalised sometime in Q2.

Word is Nokia is to use Novarra’s browser tech on their mobile phone platform S40 their propriety operating system for mass market mobile phones.

Nokia has confirmed that they will continue to support Novarra’s present clients which included Verizon Wireless, 3 in Italy and Hong Kong, Turkcell, Yahoo and Vodafone UK.

The head of Nokia services business, Niklas Savander has said, “Connecting the next billion consumers to the Internet will happen primarily on mobile devices.”
