Motorola Droid 2 Release Date: Can It Steal Verizon’s Droid X Thunder?

The Motorola Droid 2 finally has its release date confirmed and we are wondering if it could steal Verizon’s Droid X thunder.

The Motorola Droid 2 will be the successor to the Droid X and Verizon will no doubt keep the Droid 2 low-key for now, the Droid 2 release date has been set for August 12 but will hopefully make live its pre-order page the day before.

Thanks to Phandroid they found this information via Don’t Hate the Geek and the screenshot is proof that it is coming to launch on this date, now we know we put release date and we are wondering if it will in fact be the release date or will it basically mean it gets a launch mention with a release further down the line, please do answer.

Personally we think the Droid 2 will release late August or early September, wait and see is the only thing we can do at the moment.

As soon as we hear more information on the release date we will let you know, please do post your comments and have your say. Would you prefer the Droid X or Droid 2? Please do read our other article about Verizon Wireless Droid 2 training.

Sometimes, bigger is better not with a mobile phone (…does anyone remember the bag phones??). The course of mobile phone development has been to drive to a smaller platform. The X took a step back 10 years with the form factor. However, the X is a GREAT phone – if you don't mind a HUMONGOUS screen!

The Droid original, and its successor Droid 2, is just a great size phone. It fits well in your hand and pocket. It has touch keyboard AND physical keyboard. You have to compromise with a bit thicker phone and slightly smaller screen – but it is a very acceptable trade off.

I am very biased for the Droid 2. From a performance standpoint, it will be every bit as good as the X – expecially when they are both running Froyo.

My contract expired and I'm holding out for the D2. I was nearly "sucked in" by the gravitational pull of the X, but just able to escape when I read about the D2 release!

I am very biased for the Droid X. I received mine on the day it was released and I couldn't ask for a better phone. I personally enjoy the larger screen and wouldn't trade it for the new Droid 2 coming out this month.
