Tesco Direct Prepares for Smartphone Cyber Monday 2010

You probably know that today, the 29th of November is what is known as Cyber Monday, and also known as Manic Monday by retailers, and Tesco Direct is gearing up for an assault of online orders made via smartphones and computers.

Apparently the figures show that an estimated 1 in 10 people in the United Kingdom will shop online for their Christmas gifts by using a mobile phone according to research by Tesco Direct after surveying 4000 customers.

Millions of festive season bargain hunters will search for that low priced gift this Christmas and almost half will shop via their mobile handset whilst in front of their TV and 1 in 6 is expected to purchase an item via their smartphone while sat on a bus, and apparently a quarter will do so when they are commuting.

The CEO of tesco.com, Ian Crook says, “Tesco Direct is expecting to ship more than 80,000 items today as we face our busiest day of the year for online orders. For the first time this year we anticipate a significant amount of these orders to be placed by customers using their mobile phones, because customers like the convenience of shopping on the go.”

The Tesco Direct mobile website was launched earlier in November so people would find it easy to shop online via their mobile phone and features easy to explore product categories that include expandable tabs. The last Tesco Direct orders guaranteed for delivery before Christmas is the 16th of December by 12 noon while the last Christmas delivery date for Tesco Direct is December the 22nd.
