Nokia N9 MeeGo Smartphone Not Coming To UK
Well now, one would have thought that as the latest smartphone out of the Nokia camp, the Nokia N9 and as it is the one and only Meego packing smartphone, Nokia would want to offer that handset in as many markets as possible to ensure the device is a success. However it appears that Nokia doesn’t seem to want the Nokia N9 to be a great success, well at least not in certain countries.
According to the guys over at Ubergizmo, Nokia has already confirmed that the Nokia N9 will not see the light of day over in the good old US of A, and now according to a report on Moconews, Nokia has also confirmed that the Meego handset will not be coming to UK shores either.
Furthermore apparently Nokia also plans on halting sales of all Symbian devices and feature phones in the region as they focus on their Windows Phone offerings, although it is unclear if by region they mean just the US or UK or both.
Also apparently in Nokia’s infinite wisdom when it comes to the rollout of Nokia Windows Phone devices the company will look at each market individually and each country will see select devices introduced based on “a local assessment of existing and upcoming products from Nokia’s stable of devices.”
Here’s what Nokia had to say in a statement…“As an organisation Nokia takes a market by market approach to product rollout and each country decides which products to introduce from those available. These decisions are based on a local assessment of existing and upcoming products that make up Nokia’s product portfolio and are intended to provide the best local portfolio for the UK market. Although we are delighted with the very positive reception that the Nokia N9 has received.”
Thus it appears that when it comes to the Nokia N9, anyone in the United Kingdom who had hopes of picking up the smartphone is way out of luck.
Personally I can’t really understand Nokia’s decision not to offer the N9 in both the US and UK considering how bad Nokia has been doing lately one would have thought they would have been going after as many sale with whatever devices they have.
As for killing off Symbian, well many have thought that should have been done long ago, and as for Windows Phone Nokia devices, well only time will tell if Windows Phone will be Nokia’s saviour, but I doubt it.
