Motorola Droid 3 upcoming update looms

The word is that owners of the Motorola Droid 3 just might see an update arrive soon, as Motorola has apparently sent out emails looking for people to take part in a soak test; however apparently the developer community has come across a couple of new builds which can be flashed in stock recovery without root.

According to the guys over at Phone Arena by way of XDA-Developers, there is a bit of a snag with one of the Motorola Droid 3 developer builds and that is you will not be able to revert to an older version once one of these new builds is flashed.

This means of course is you run across any bugs in the update then hard luck, so it is probably best to hang on in there and wait for Verizon to deliver an official firmware update to the Droid 3.

Obviously the Droid 3 is getting on a bit now as it has been out for about a year and has already been replaced by the Motorola Droid 4, but some Droid 3 owners out there are hoping their handset will see an update of Android Ice Cream Sandwich at some point, but thus far no word on whether the device will gain ICS is available.

Anyway for those Motorola Droid 3 owners that don’t mind tinkering with their device and would like to give these two new developer builds a go you can download all the necessary by hitting up XDA-Developers, but remember you do so at your own risk, but feel free to let us know how you get on if you do.

Hashcodes CM9 for droid 3 works flawlessly aside from the camera issues he’s working on. Improved my droid 3’s performance and battery life quite a bit.
