Release iOS 5.1 jailbreak ASAP and burn 5 exploits
Ever since Apple released the iOS 5.1 update in the early part of March the jailbreak community have been hard working on a solution to providing users who like to jailbreak their iOS devices, and at the time Pod2g revealed work was already underway, and hopefully we will see the release of the iOS 5.1 jailbreak ASAP.
The status of the iOS 5.1 jailbreak has just received a major update as iDownloadBlog are reporting that Pod2g took to his Tweeter account to say he had “a productive weekend”, and has now found “2 big vulnerabilities. 1 kernel land and 1 root land.”
This news comes only five days after he had posted a poll on his own website, asking if jailbreakers if he and other hackers should continue to work on an iOS 5.1 jailbreak, or instead wait until Apple begins seeding iOS 6.
At the time of writing users still have a day left to leave their opinions, but it seems the outcome has been already decided, as out of 142707 votes 89,126 or 62 percent of voters feel that hackers should continue their work on iOS 5.1. This compares to 50,336 or 35 percent of voters who believe the jailbreak community should wait until iOS 6.
The problem is though that releasing an iOS 5.1 jailbreak for what is considered just a minor upgrade from 5.0.1 will mean that the exploits will be patched for iOS 6 that is thought to be making an appearance at next month’s WWDC 2012 event.
Once these exploits have been fixed there are no guarantees that hackers will be able to find more in the new operating system, but there is a chance that Apple won’t find and plug the exploits in iOS 6 anyway even if a iOS 5.1 jailbreak is released or not.
While there is still no date for any iOS 5.1 jailbreak being released, it does sound like the jailbreaking community is making good progress with it, and it seems they will continue that work. Do you think the jailbreaking team should wait until iOS 6?
